[Gmsh] Definition parameter space?

Hello,

I have a question and hope that you can help me.

I came across the following problem:
Error : Identical points in triangulation: increase element size or
Mesh.RandomFactor

I read about this here on the mailing list and know the solution, but I am
trying to understand the theory of this.
This post mentiones a really simple example I am trying to unterstand:

Can someone please give me a short explanation on how the parameter space
is defined?
