[Gmsh] Import step assemblies into gmsh

Hi

I have been working on importing STEP assemblies into gmsh. I'm having a problem that the parts do not share nodes and elements in their mutual interface. It should obvious from at this screen dump from netgen of an assembly of two cylinders (uses much of the same code that goes into gmsh):

I know this issue has been raised before and that it is not specific to gmsh. Does anyone know a work around? I would like that a program that would recognize share features (lines, surfaces, ..) automatically and make a shared mesh. One option is to output the step files to gmsh .geo format and make a script that does this. I can do write such a script with reasonable effort, but the gmsh geometry format misses some geometrical surfaces such as torus, cone, cylinder, and bspline so these are omitted in the output. Thus it is not of much use.

Does anybody know a work around?

Salome is able to shared meshes but the approach is quite manual, and it does not work on my (linux) computer anyway.

Cheers! Lars
