[Gmsh] meshing of 1D elements

Hi all,
I am trying to mesh a 2D region consisting of geometric and physical
regions. I use the isotropic 2D algorithm. Element lengths are
constrained by a background mesh. Things work mostly alright, only that
during the 1D meshing stage extra nodes are introduced which are not
used later on so I end up with a number of unconnected nodes. Is there
some way to repress them?
