[Gmsh] combined mesh/geometry file format

I thought this might be a good group to ask this question to....

Does anyone know of an existing mesh/geometry file format that
contains meshes for small structural elements and applies translation
vectors and rotation matrices (Euler preferred) to defined the overall
fully-meshed geometry?

I am currently implementing a version of this type of structure using
gmsh .msh files for small structural elements, and assembling large
numbers of them using translation and rotation in Matlab.  This type
of structure significantly reduces mesh storage, in addition to a
number of computational benefits.

Is there an existing format for this type of mesh/geometry definition?
