<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"">Make sure that you do a _<i>3D</i>_ mesh, and that “save all (ignore physical groups)” is checked when you save your mesh. You will have to fiddle with mesh
width, look at the possibilities under Tools->Options->Mesh, ” General” and “Advanced” tabs. Then normally you should get a 3D mesh which ElmerGUI will load.</span></p>

I apologize - it appears that approach 1 did not generate a volume (I cannot see any volume elements listed in gmsh as I previously thought). So at this point, I believe I need to add a physical volume, although that method has not worked as I previously pointed
out. I noticed in my .msh file that it is empty, which is obviously the source of my problem. I have attached both the .geo and .msh for reference (from approach #2).<br>

Would you happen to know if there is any particular method I should be using to create the volume mesh?<br>

1. Simply opening my .step file and meshing 1, 2, and 3D. <br>
2. Creating a volume physical group using the GUI, and then meshing as above<br>
<br>
when I attempt to open the .msh file in Elmer, I get 2 different responses:<br>
<br>
1. When I open the first file, it opens as usual, but opens with no volume elements<br>
2. When I open the second file, it does not open at all - Elmer says that there are 0 elements in the file.

I am attempting to mesh a rather complex geometry representative of a 3/0 AWG copper wire. I have a .step file (attached) for this geometry. When I attempt to mesh this geometry and open it in Elmer (for additional analysis), I noticed that the mesh has " 0
volume elements". <br>

Would you be able to assist with this issue? I'm thinking I may not have the correct options setup for meshing a geometry such as this.

I should point out that I am not very experienced with finite element analysis, as this is my first attempt at using software such as gmsh and elmer.
