[Gmsh] Intersecting volumes, possible?

I am trying to use gmsh to parameter-script a turbine. This is working great,
(using functions/loops), but I now face some headache when trying to figure
out if it is possible to have gmsh combine volumes. Say a sphere and cube
intersecting midways, I want it to become one object/volume that is meshable.
Is this possible? For example to extrude a shape into a different shape, and
the overlapping parts are "removed"?
If this is not possible to do automagically, I think my gmsh companionship
will come to a early end, since it would take so much more programming and
even with maby limitations from the gmsh scripting language itself..
Hope this is possible and easy, since I enjoy the program this far!
best regards,
Bjørnar
