Not that I'm aware of (and the answer at
http://www.geuz.org/pipermail/getdp/2006/000780.html was no), except
to whatever extent one regards the source-code as self-documenting.
  I guess I haven't had to worry too much about this myself as I
mostly use Gmsh's meshes in FreeFem++, and then I can combine multiple
meshes there; however, that's getting off-topic for this list.
