only possibility with cmake is to define CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH (e.g. 
-DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH="/home/nico/med-1.2.3;/home/nico/hdf5").

we fixed a bug a couple of days ago in our CMakeList.txt file to address 
this issue: now -ldl should be found by default if it's available
