It was a joke. My apologies for that, but the situation was just asking for it..
Honestly, I have never seen something remotely like your "twisted" problem before. And I would not trust my own eyes if I had it on my screen, but rather take it as a sign to take a nap ASAP.

Not at all a joke. All other text is fine - it's just the message
console that is flipped vertically. I tried erasing the .gmsh* files
from my home directory, thinking that there might be some conflict
with my previously-installed version, but that didn't work.
Is yours seriously mirrored, Bernhard, or is that a joke?
