Bernhard - strange: meshing your example on my Mac works just fine (it
takes less than 1 second), but it fails on Windows with the default
algorithm ("Isotropic").

I will look into it. In the meantime, use the "Triangle" algorithm (in
Tools->Options->Mesh->General->2D algorithm). The resulting mesh will
not be as nice, but it should work on Windows.
