[Gmsh] holes and layers

Can we see these layers after meshing?

How to decide the number of layers and the number of subdivision? From the example,
there are either 3 or 4 layers.

Also how to assign the volume numbers to them? What's does each layer's
height means?

Can you give me an example to extrude a point or line with layers?
