Sorry for the delay, I was out of the office last week. I often set the
reference potential "at infinity", i.e. where I can assume that the
fields are sufficiently attenuated, or on the boundary of a
geometrically transformed region. The important thing is to notice that
the problem, by nature, is not bounded, so that the conditions will
always influence the physical meaning of the solution.
